Sir,
Referring to my predecessor's despatch No. 316 of the 17th November 1892 forwarding copy of a report by the Director of Public Works together with plans of the proposed new residence for the Governor at the Peak, I have the honour to state that as the financial position of the Colony appears to justify an early commencement of this work, the question of site, plans etc. have again been carefully considered.
The site decided on in 1892, immediately above the site of the original building, seems on the whole the most suitable, and the preparation of this site is now being proceeded with.
3. The plans prepared by the Public Works Department referred to above, were, however, found to be open to objection in many respects. The arrangement of the rooms was unsatisfactory and the accommodation insufficient. The building was not as well protected by enclosed verandahs as is both desirable and necessary at such a high elevation so much exposed.
